Here are the words of Kelly Reilly, our mission director:
"As many of you have heard, we received some difficult news
last week. It appears that baby Reilly has a severe form of spina bifida,
called myelomeningocele. In the past five years fetal surgery to correct the
exposed spinal cord has become routine, and the doctor thinks we are good
candidates for the procedure, tentatively scheduled for 3 July. If the surgery
goes through, it would mean staying on bed rest for the remainder of the
pregnancy, and my family and I would be unable to lead the trip. While we won't
know for sure about the surgery until 15 June (and the determination cannot be
made any sooner), we also cannot hold airline tickets and make time-critical
ministry arrangements when it is hopeful that we will be accepted for the
surgery. Because of this and the many other unknowns associated with this
development, we believe it is wise and necessary to cancel the trip. We are
disappointed in having to make this decision, as we have led this trip for the
past 12 years, but we know it is the best plan for this year."
I stand with Kelly and her family in this decision. Please pray for the family as they have a challenging path ahead.
TPS hopes to continue the mission trip in 2016 and beyond.
